Mats Wilander was one of the world’s best tennis players in the 80s and 90s. During his amazing career Wilander won 33 singles and 7 doubles titles and made it to world No. 1. In 1996 he retired from professional tennis, later worked as a coach (2001-2007) and also served as Sweden’s Davis Cup captain (2003-2009).
Since retiring from coaching, Wilander has accompanied the French Open, Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open as an expert for the sports broadcaster Eurosport. Together with Barbara Schett, he hosts the live evening show “Game, Schett and Mats”, with analysis of the day’s matches. Mats Wilander is just the right tennis expert for the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Aramco. With his expertise he can deliver unique analysis of the game. Working alongside Barbara Schett-Eagle, the pair’s outstanding knowledge is sure to enhance fans’ enjoyment of the tournament. Thomas Johansson is another former Swedish tennis player joining the Diriyah Tennis Cup as a special guest. He reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 7 and won the Australian Open in 2002. After finishing his playing career in 2009, Johansson worked as a coach for various ATP and WTA players. Until the end of 2020 he coached David Goffin, who competed at the Diriyah Tennis Cup in 2019. Thomas Johansson is a true legend of tennis and a perfect addition to the team of experts. His coaching knowledge will be invaluable at the tennis try-outs which are part of the tournament. „It will be a great experience to visit Diriyah and watch some of the best players in this unique arena.
