Series of try-outs and training sessions with Judy Murray

While the pros have a busy Centre Court schedule at the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Aramco this week, Judy Murray and Barbara Schett-Eagle have been at several schools to bring tennis to the young people of Saudi Arabia.

Judy Murray has been at several try-outs in schools and universities, introducing many young sports enthusiasts to tennis. Schett-Eagle joined Murray for a training session on Thursday with teachers as well as showing young children aged 7-9  the ropes of tennis.

The tennis legends worked with teachers to kindle the spark for tennis and create even more interest over weeks and months before Murray and Schett-Eagle will likely return to Diriyah next year.

“The teachers want to be able to develop tennis in school and sometimes they think if they haven’t got tennis courts they aren’t able to do it. But we set up lots of exercises that develop skills you need to be able to play tennis”, said Judy Murray, one of the most popular tennis coaches worldwide.

Murray will conclude her campaign on Friday with a Family Tennis Camp where children and parents will take to the mini courts right next to the action on Center Court.

Barbara Schett-Eagle felt the special enthusiasm all the youngster showed during the training sessions with her and Judy Murray. “They love it! You can see they want to run around, they want to use their rackets and a tennis ball. It’s been a lot of fun being here and just seeing also how keen they are to get their foot into the doorsteps of tennis.”
