Saudi Games champions and finalists are part
of the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Aramco

This will be one of the highlights of the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Aramco 2022! The four best players (women and men) of the Saudi Games 2022 will be participants during the exhibition event on the final day of the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Aramco. They´ll enter the stage on December 10that 6pm. A special feature: three of the four players come from the same family!

It´s all about the Al Hagbani family! While Yara Al Hagbani won the women’s competition, her brothers Saud and Ammar faced each other in the men’s final. The 17-years old Yara (Al-Ittihad club) defeated Lara Bukhani (Al-ilal tennis club) in the final of the Saudi Games in straight sets – both women will now attend the Diriyah Tennis Cup Exhibition. Al Hagbani ist the first female professional tennis player from Saudi Arabia und the first female player from Saudi to achieve an international ranking. She convinces with her aggressive baseline style of play an equally powerful counterpunch. Now she is really excited to compete on the big stage in Diryah Arena: “It’s an absolute honor and privilege. Being able to play in front of a home crowd is every players dream. Saudi tennis fans being able to see a Saudi tennis player play on that big of a stage is definitely inspirational and very encouraging”, Yara Al-Hiogbani said.

She will be joined not only by Lara Bukhani, but by her older brothers. Saud, 20 years old, won in the men´s final of the Saudi Games in a tough three setter against Ammar, who is three years older. Both are playing for Al-Ittihad club and are regular members of the Saudi Davis Cup Team. While Saud won a youth tournament in Kuwait a few years ago, Ammar was already playing college tennis for the University of Virginia in the United States. He also represented Saudi Arabia at the Asian Games. “ It’s one of my biggest accomplishments. I normally play internationally and a lot of the fans don’t get to see me play so playing in front of everyone and bringing a higher level of tennis to Saudi is everything I could hope for”, mentioned Saud. He and Ammar are also relly looking forward to the incredible atmosphere of the second edition of the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Aramco. “I think it’s important for Saudi tennis fans to be able to watch the pros live. This will help spread the love of the sport throughout the country and hopefully get more people on the court.”

The exact format of the exhibition at the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Saudi Aramco is still to be confirmed. From December 8-10, a total of 12 world class players including Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios will compete at the Diriyah Tennis Cup presented by Saudi Aramco, with total prize money of 3 million US dollars to play for, tickets for the tournament are available on www.diryahseason.sa.
