Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie on the plane to Diriyah

The tournament field is taking shape: Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie are two more world-class players who will compete at the Diriyah Tennis Cup from December 8-10, 2022.

Andrey Rublev is on form in 2022! He has already won four ATP titles this year and has been one of the world’s top players for several years. Rublev, who qualified for the NITTO ATP Finals in Torino (November 13-20), has also reached 6 Grand Slam quarterfinals and won the gold medal in mixed doubles at the Tokyo Olympics alongside Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The 25-year-old, who is among the players competing in Saudi Arabia for the first time, says: “I look forward to competing with many top players in the Diriyah Cup, since it will be very good preparation for the upcoming season.  I will to do my very best to show great level of tennis and for spectators to enjoy their time. See you guys very soon.”

Another top player competing at the Diriyah Tennis Cup will be Cameron Norrie. The 27-year-old from Great Britain entered the world’s top ten for the first time this spring and reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at this year’s Wimbledon. Last year, he won the Masters tournament in Indian Wells (California) and since then his game has gotten even stronger. Cameron Norrie commented: “I’m looking forward to playing at the Diriyah Tennis Cup for the very first time in December. It will be a memorable tournament at a unique location and a great experience to come to Saudi Arabia.”

Gaël Monfils, on the other hand, will have to forego competing in the Diriyah Tennis Cup. The Frenchman had to cancel all upcoming tournaments due to an injury. He explained: “As you may know, I have been battling with a foot injury for most of the season and the recovery process is taking longer than expected. I am extremely disappointed as I have had great memories from my last visit in 2019 and I was very much looking forward to coming back. I will be following the competition from afar and I hope to return in the near future.”

Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie will join defending champion Daniil Medvedev, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka in Saudi Arabia. From December 8-10, a total of 12 players will compete at the Diriyah Tennis Cup 2022, with total prize money of 3 million US dollars to play for.
